Every single year there are hundreds of thousands of “Resolutioners” looking to lose weight, get organized, spend less/save more, stay fit and healthy, etc. If you are one of these people who have these goals in mind, who says you have to wait until January 1st? Why not start right now?
Most people do wait until the new year because a new calendar year implies you start over with a clean slate. What is the difference between January 1st and today? Its Monday, a new start to the week. There are plenty of reasons why starting your resolution today is actually better now than doing it later.
Think about it… You can accomplish a lot between now and the new year. There’s 48 days from right now until January. Think about how much you can do in that little amount of time. Looking to make a new habit? Research suggests that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Let’s use dieting as an example. So you want to fix your diet for the new year and slim down a couple pounds. Would you rather have started now, and had a good diet set even before January? Or would you rather it be January 21st and you just started getting into a routine? Think of how much farther towards your goal you would be if you just started now. My favorite quote when I think of this is “The way to get ahead is to start now” and it is so true.
We stress so much about time but when you think about it, time is just an illusion. It was created by humans to measure events and order them from past to present. There is no “right” or “wrong” time. There is only a now. The best thing I can tell you is the right time is whatever time you want. Get out there and accomplish your goals and don’t rely on a made-up concept to start living your life.
