Getting up early and beating the alarm has been proven to show amazing benefits (check out my last article here ). The problem is not many people know how to start getting to the point where waking up early feels sustainable and easy. Here are my top tips and tricks to start getting you up earlier and earlier.
Start slow! This is crucial to your success. Just like anything in life you can’t just make a drastic change and expect to keep a successful habit. The idea behind this is to integrate getting up early into your schedule slowly to help make it manageable and more enjoyable. If you are someone who would normally wake up at 8 am but your goal is to start waking up at 6 am, your target goals should look something similar to this:
- Week 1: Wake up every morning at 7:30 am
- Week 2: Wake up every morning at 7:00 am
- Week 3: Wake up every morning at 6:30 am
- Week 4: Wake up every morning at 6:00 am
Prep Prep Prep. Prepping can give you the extra push you’re looking for. Getting things ready the night before can feel hideous but having one less thing to worry about in the morning is huge.
Prepping can include:
- laying out clothes
- setting the alarm
- making overnight meals for breakfast (i.e. instant oats)
- having coffee in the filter and set for a certain time
Have a plan. Make sure you know everything that needs to be done in the morning. Waking up early is going to be uncomfortable at first, thats normal. Having an idea of what needs to be done helps speed the process of getting ready in the morning and helps get you into a healthy routine. This healthy routine will eventually turn into habit and be simple!
My biggest piece of advice I can leave you with is to start simple. Do one thing that you enjoy to start your day (working out, reading, yoga, etc). Don’t let the alarm overwhelm you!
