Are you struggling to get up and go because of a lack of motivation? Everyday there is someone who decides that they can skip their run, go to the gym tomorrow, or start that homework assignment later. The best piece of advice I ever received to help me with motivation was to MAKE A BET and SIGN UP.
If you can make a bet with someone it will increase your motivation exponentially. By betting you now have a reason to hold yourself accountable. This kind of bet can be about anything. For example, if you are struggling to get to the gym, make a bet with your friend. The bet can be something along the lines of “I bet you (insert cool incentive here) that I can get to the gym 4 times this week.” Having a bet made effects people on a subconscious level and lead to them working towards that bet. The trick is to make the bet worth it. If the bet is something too little, i.e. Buying lunch, chances are you are not going to care.
The other way to increase your motivation simply is to just sign up. Sign up for the 5 k that’s a month away or that half marathon that’s 2 months away. Just like making a bet, its going to affect you on a subconscious level. If you are thinking about skipping, you are going to think about how much money you would have wasted or how hard the run is going to be without training. Just make sure the race or whatever you are signing up for isn’t flying distance or multiple hours away.
Just commit to something and get started. Having these external factors already set can change your way of thinking and help you achieve a better you each and every day.
