It’s Yours if You Want It

For 22 years of my life, I hated country music. Growing up in a small town in lower Delaware, that’s all people listened to. For whatever reason, I would cringe every time a country song came on the radio. Taylor Swift was the only artist I could tolerate, and she’s not even technically a country artist anymore. Then, just around 8 months ago, something in me changed. It was like hitting a light switch. I started listening to the local country station and exploring different songs Spotify. Something about the songs make me think of summertime, beautiful weather, and being at the beach. A particular favorite of mine at the moment is “Yours if You Want It” by Rascal Flatts. If you listen to the lyrics, it puts out a really great message. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes,

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

This comes from one of my favorite books, the Alchemist. Basically, if you think positively and visualize yourself achieving your goals, there isn’t anything that you cant do. Now, don’t get me wrong, you’re going to need to work for it a bit. Or a lot, for that matter. However, when you have a positive mindset and have the desire succeed with all of your being, the universe tends to work in your favor. Sometimes, having the right frame of mind 100% of the time isn’t always feasible. We get down on ourselves, bad things happen, we don’t get what we want, etc. And that’s when we fall back into the trap. The trap of negativity and hate. Unfortunately, negativity only breeds more negativity.

“Negativity is a thief. Its steals happiness”

Fortunately, negative thoughts can be defeated. The positive outweighs the negative 100 to 1. When we get back on the cycle of positivity, we tell those negative thoughts who’s boss. We get more positivity thrown our way. The next time you feel yourself being negative (“OMG this day is horrible blah blah blah”), stop yourself. Replace those thoughts with those of love and gratitude (“Wow! The sky is gorgeous today. I am so grateful I got to see this”). Now, I know this may all sound like a bunch of silly, philosophical junk, but it works – trust me. Give it a try. There won’t be anything that you can’t accomplish. Because baby, it’s yours if you want it.
