Fitness from the Comfort of Your Own Home

It’s getting to be time of year again! The weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter. Winter always makes me want to hibernate in the comfort of my own home with a blanket and a good book. Just because you want to stay inside doesn’t mean you have to let your fitness fall to the wayside! Check out these tips for establishing a fitness routine in the comfort of your own home! You can even stay in your pajamas if you want!

1. Establish a Schedule

Know that you get off of work at 5 p.m. but want to be in bed by 9? Etch out time from 6:30 – 7:30 that you will devote to breaking a sweat. Putting a workout into your calendar will help you stay accountable!

2. Don’t Neglect the Important Parts!

Just because you’ll be sweating up a storm in your living room doesn’t mean you can skip a warm-up or a cool-down! Take 10 – 15 minutes before you begin working out to warm-up your muscles.  Dynamic warm-up exercises do a great job of preparing your body for your workout and prevents injury. And don’t forget to stretch once your exercise session is complete!

3. Keep Track

Write down your workouts in a planner. Not only will it keep you accountable, but you’ll also be able to track your progress. There’s something super motivating about seeing how far you’ve come!

4. Invest in Some Inexpensive Equipment

Stock up on the essentials! A stability ball, exercise bands, a yoga mat, and 1-2 sets of dumbbells is all you need to make your living room into a gym. All of these items can be found from Amazon, Target, or Wal-Mart!

5. Do Some Research

There are a TON of at home workouts on the internet. When searching for your routine, consider what your goals are (strength, weight loss, etc.), how much time you have, and what equipment you have available. Some great websites are BodyBuilding.com and Oxygenmagazine.com.
