With the next installment in the do you even series I look at a type of eating. So do you even IIFYM bro? What is this random acronym? It stand for if it fits your macro. This is a way of eating that can be used to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain weight. Focusing primarily on the macronutrients which are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Basically all you have to do is keep track of these three things and you will be able to accomplish whatever goal you have weight wise. IIFYM adheres to the philosophy that when you get down to it a calorie is a calorie.
With this diet you can basically eat whatever you want during the day as long as at the end of the day you meet all of your macronutrient goals. That is it. Pretty straightforward. The reason people like this so much is because it lets them eat whatever they want within their goal. There are no restrictions. I would still suggest eating a generally healthful diet with a mix of fruits, veggies, grains, lean meats. You just do not have to worry about if you have that extra desert or candy during the day.
To start with IIFYM you first need to figure out your macronutrient needs. This can be done with a variety of calculators found online. Here is one. Once you have those and you change them according to your goals you need to start keeping track. I suggest using some form of fitness and nutrition tracker that you can use with your smart phone. Most of these have the foods you will encounter in your day to day life so you just have to enter them in as you eat so you know what is available at every meal. Using these trackers it is easy to see what you have available to eat throughout the day.
