Polar Bear Plunge, Rehoboth Beach, DE, 1 pm

The annual Polar Bear Plunge is perhaps the largest such event in the seaside State of Delaware. Every February, almost 3,000 swimmers bring their bravado and their pledge money to Rehoboth Beach where, on the count of "three," they all plunge into the icy Atlantic Ocean. Many prizes are available for the taking, but the best reward of all is the money raised for the Special Olympics of Delaware. If a February swim in the ocean isn't exactly your scene, then consider the 5K "Run to the Plunge," also at 1 p.m. Participation in this event costs only $20 to $25, includes a free long-sleeved t-shirt, and doesn't require the fortitude of a polar bear.  This event will take place at Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. For more information please call (302) 831-4653 or email: info@sode.org.
